life in dubai

Well i do not have any new pictures to post but i did want to say hello. We have been talking about our return this summer and the kids, and myself, are getting excited. The heat is already kicking our butt. Grey and I walked about 1 mile today and were sooooo hot. It has to be at least 100 today! I will get a car when we get back from vacation. Grey was asking me if we could get a taxi. That is our normal transportation. Unless Danny leaves the car with us. I was very happy last night because I was able to download Greys Anatomy from itunes....I tried to watch it on abc.com and a pop up came on stating "only people in the US can watch full episodes" I was not happy! So I am now a HUGE itunes fan!!! (no commercials!!!!) Well i hope everyone is doing great. The kids have adjusted and we are doing great. We try to venture out on the weekends. We may try another beach this weekend or the Dubai outlet mall....We are officially U.A.E. residents. We all got our visas! Mine says occupation: housewife, not able to work....they agree that i am on vacation!!!! I had to get blood work and chest xray before being cleared and allowed to stay in the country. The process did not take very long because we had a local bring us (this is his job, to take of these things for us) and he told them it was urgent because we had a baby in the car. So I was first in line! They did not know that dad was in the car with him!!! And they didnt seem to care that i left my kid in the car! Crazy! Signing out for now....XXxOoX

My master piece!!!

I finally finished my painting!!! Now i just need to do a few touch ups and frame my first master piece! I am accepting orders!!! Ha!

Just wanted to give everyone a clue on the construction going on here. And this is just the marina area! This place is a crane zoo! Grey calls them Giraffes!!!

Dubai Marina

Today we went to the Dubai Marina Walk. There were little booths set up with the locals stuff for sale. The lobster behind natalie was soooo big! The water is an amazing color and you can see straight thru it. We could see fish swimming!

Dubai Karate

Here are a few pics of Natalie's new TKD school. Her instructer is a 5th degree Black Belt and is tough! He is very good with the kids. She will be in a competition next week so wish her luck.

These are a few things we saw on the way. On the way home we discovered that the map and what the road really looks like is not the same. There are round abouts everywhere and the signs do not have the name of the road but the next city is on the sign....Well...the next city is not always on the map so needless to say we got a little lost. BUT...it did not take long before we figured it out. We Started seeing signs that said Dubai and Jebel Ali....so we knew we were going in the right direction. The drive to the beach took about 2 hours. We are suppose to go back during Ramadan (first week of oct.) because you can not eat or drink in public and a lot of things close down. So the expats (thats us) go on vacation. The hotel we will stay in is usually $190 a night...during the week we will be there it becomes $590 a night.... We are thinking about maybe going to another country for that price. So if anyone has any input as to where we should go visit please let me know...It is about 600-700 to fly just about anywhere from here! (EXCEPT THE STATES) it is triple to do that so that is not an option!!! Anyway...we had a good venture and have already planned the next one. We were told there are some natural springs and water falls in the middle of the desert somewhere. So we will find those next weekend with the help of the neighbor!!! I hope everyone is doing well. Things are going great here. We miss everyone very much. Grey keeps asking to go home and when he sees a picture of our house in Houston he says That house mommy!!! I want to go to that house!!!! He is clueless. Natalie is adjusting very well. She said she has a ton of friends at school and loves it. She is learning arabic! take care to whoever is reading my blogs and we love and miss you!!!!

This was Sandy Beach and Snoopy Island. People were out there scuba diving and snorkeling. I had my mask with my but I did not go out far enough to see anything. The waves were a little rough so too much sand in my way. The sand is a little different than Destin. It was very soft. We saw several jelly fish but they looked strange. They looked like silicon implants...i touched it! Glad it did not sting. We saw a few in the water but i did not touch those!!! We only stayed about 30-45 minutes. We could feel our skin cooking. natalie found some great shells!

We finally see water!!!! I still had no idea where we were going but i knew most of the towns were to the left.... We found this area that had jet skiis and boats you could go out on. There were a lot of people there but we were the only ones in swim suits... everyone else was dressed from head to toe...it was only 98 degrees at this point!!!! This beach was dirty and had lots of trash so we were there about 2 minutes and decided to drive a little further.

here are the billy goats i told you about. There was a pack of 10 just walking down the road. We drove through the mountains...it was really neat. We kept going up until after this tunnel...then we started going down...My ears popped! Didnt realize how high up we were! I thought this tunnel was amusing because there was a good bye sign before the entrance. It was a pretty big tunnel... So where is the beach everyone was asking???? (i had no clue...but i knew at some point we would get to the end of this highway and it would be the coast line) So we kept driving.....

Site Seeing

yesterday we decided we were going to go on a venture and I was in charge of the destination. So I looked at a map, we packed up the car with beach stuff and snacks and hit the road. I decided we were going to the east coast and drive through the mountains. On the way there we saw these lovely camels. In The middle picture the camels were running! A car was chasing them. Poor camels!!!! The close up camels were really tht close to us on the side of the road...we thought this was pretty cool. They also had a ton of billy goats... So we start our venture.....

a day with Grey

****** grey wanted everyone to see pictures of him today. He had his underwear on his head acting like a pirate. We have come to the conclusion that cable is terrible here! There are a few channels in english...with arabic sub titles. Grey gets to watch barney in the morning. That is about the only thing we have recognized on TV. never really liked the purple guy...but i kinda have to now! We do get MTV, VH1 and E channel. Without subtitles!!! Other than that we are all doing well. On Friday we are going to the beach so I should have more pics then!!! Love yall!

The pic above is where they are building Dubailand. Tiger Woods was given a blank check to build his section. They are also building another snow ski mountain. This house on the side is a house on the golf course. It is very small!!! ya right. These are some buildings close by the house. I started taking my camera everywhere i go so i can take scenery pics!

Pics of the bedrooms. The kids got bunk beds so they could put all of their toys in one room. grey wants the rocket ship in his room, which works out good when we are playing the wii. The flowers are my ikea creation. To the right is our view from the toy room. And this is what the bathrooms look like. The sprayer is if you want to wash after... they even have them in the public bathrooms. Some of the womens toilets are just holes in the ground with a sprayer. I let grey use those!

here are a few pics of the house. we are trying to get the table inside the house! the landlord is crazy for leaving it outside. The kitchen is a little small but it works!
